Unser Burgerbrau Suffikator

Suffikator is a German double bock (doppelbock) with a strength of 6.8%, brewed by the Unser Burgerbrau brewery, Bavaria. The tradition of giving doppelbock beers names ending in "-ator" comes from the original doppelbock, called Salvator. This is actually a Paulaner beer, and mean “saviour” in Latin.

It is interesting that the term “Salvator” became a generic name for German double bocks until the year 1894, when Paulaner bought a trade mark on the name. Since then the style has become known as doppelbock because it is similar to a regular bock, but produced with twice the malt (and generally twice the amount of fermentable ingredients).

Although not the original doppelbock, Unser Burgerbrau Suffikator is a great bock, with a full malt taste which is well balanced by an abundance of hop character. The hops lend it a dry, bitter aftertaste. It also boasts a bouquet of fresh grains.
